The Multiverse Database Best answer on the web

  • I need someone to write a brief review of my new website www.multiverse-db.com This doesn't require any research at all. Just visit the site, check out the functions, and tell me and others what you think when you write your answer. I'd prefer a researcher with some knowledge of astronomy. I'm going to post this question twice though, once under science and once under general reference.

  • Thanks halejrb-ga for the nice rating.

I do know thx1138-ga and will definitely let him know about this.

    Warm Regards,

  • Hi again halejrb,

I very much liked the idea of the website, and you have some very nice ideas!
    My observations are:

On the home page the graphics for Jupiter, Earth, Saturn, and Uranus didnīt work (ie. I got the little red cross) Iīm using win 98 and IE5, Iīm not really a computer geek so I canīt tell you what the problem might be (it is more than possible the problem is at my end)
I agree with my colleague netcrazy-ga, the red on black was hard on the eyes and the blue on black was even harder, however the green and the white on black worked well.
The database is very extensive and quite well presented, and is a very useful resource. For me the main thing is the colours, I would seriously consider changing the colour scheme, as you have very professional looking information with a colour scheme that would normally make me look for a another similar site rather than use yours.
Other than the colours and the comments made by netcrazy-ga itīs a great site! Well done.....
    All the best

  • An excellent answer from someone who obviously knows a lot about website design. I should have mentioned to everyone that the MVDB is a relational database containing planets, stars, and alternate universes from the many worlds of science fiction.

  • I don't need an answer clarification. If you know researcher thx1138 though, I'd like to get a comment from him. He answered a previous question of mine on astronomy.

  • Hello and thank you for giving this opportunity to test your website.

To be honest, the first look made me a bit uncomfortable because of the background black color but when I was on a page for few seconds, I started feeling good and better. Reason: This site is all about stars, planets, galaxies and so on. So, the background very well matches the theme. It was showing the dark sky full of stars. The red font color gives a good readability with the black background but the blue color gave a stress to my eyes. May be you would like to make some change with the blue font color on the main page.
I clicked on the "About the Database" link. The page has very informative details but it is too long to read. I’d have like it much more if you had couple of links for each section on this page. In addition, you can put a link to go on top of the page whenever any section ends. This will help a user to directly go on top of page instead of dragging the scroll bar every time.
Color combination looks very creative and artistic.

When clicked on "About Contributors", the content looks good but the page is lengthy which is not required. There is so much of empty space, which you can remove so that this will remove the vertical scroll bar. Infact, this you can check for most of the pages. This will also reduce the download time for your site and in that way, you can increase the download speed of your site on a dialup connection.
"What’s New?" link showed me a page with a link in it saying "New images..." but there were no images. Did you miss anything over here or this is the way it was supposed to be shown? Just a thought.
"Add to the Database" looks very neat and well descriptive.

When I tried to do a "Search", if the search returned zero results or just 3 results, even than the page had "Previous and Next" text, which is not at all required. This should come up with link, only when the result is more than the set number of records per page.
I checked for "View Database" and I’m really impressed with the type of information you’ve collected. I’ve book marked this page for my use. On the same lines, I checked for w/o Universe notes link, and it also looks good.
Overall, the site is good, very informative and easy to navigate and use. It is also user friendly. Just need some minor cosmetic changes here and there.
    All the best.

    Regards,
    netcrazy
